ATTENTION ALL PORT DE MER RESIDENTS
Due to the ongoing situation with the Corona Virus (COVID-19), we have had to make some changes in order to keep residents and staff safe and healthy. It is anticipated that as we obtain further information that there will be more changes in addition to these:
- Residents are being advised to make contact with the office via phone or email rather than making in-person visits.
- Our staff will only be doing essential/emergency repairs in units. Non-essential repairs will have to be postponed.
- No new renovation projects are allowed to begin in individual units until further notice.
- Our cleaning and maintenance personnel have been provided guidelines on increased cleaning of common areas and frequently touched surfaces.
Update #10 on COVID-19
At 2AM Sunday, Florida Department of Health announced that there are 16 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Broward County, bringing the total number of positive cases to 40. The individuals are isolated and will continue to remain isolated until cleared by public health officials.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced that they are now allowing passengers to bring liquid hand sanitizer containers up to 12 ounces in carry-on bags until further notice. Passengers can expect that these containers larger than the standard allowance of 3.4 ounces of liquids permitted through a checkpoint may need to be screened separately, which will add some time to their checkpoint screening experience.
The 17th Judicial Circuit Court has implemented its Continuity of Operations plan and accordingly, no public access will be allowed at any of Broward County’s four courthouses beginning Monday, March 16, for a period of two weeks. The only exceptions are at the Main Central Courthouse for persons seeking domestic violence injunctions, jurors currently empaneled in trial in certain criminal cases, and persons permitted, by advance notice, by the Chief Judge and/or presiding judge. There will be more information to come early next week on assistance for small businesses. The Small Business Administration’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans offer up to $2 million in assistance for a small business. These loans can provide vital economic support to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they are experiencing. SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans can be used to cover payroll, cover inventory, pay debt or other expenses. Visit SBA.gov/coronavirus for more information.
Many County and municipal events have been postponed or canceled in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. Many local concert, performance and festival events have been canceled. Tuesday’s Presidential Preference Primary will continue as planned. Polling locations will be sanitized. Some polling locations have changed, primarily to assist with voting by elderly residents. Visit BrowardSOE.org for the latest location information.
Water & Wastewater Services reminds residents that disinfecting wipes, although many claim to be “flushable” are generally not, and should not be flushed down the toilet as doing so may result in plumbing problems at home or further down the line. The same applies to kleenex, paper towels and napkins. Please dispose of these items in your garbage.
The Board of County Commissioners reminds all residents and visitors to follow these guidelines for personal protection:
- Wash your hands frequently, for at least 20 seconds, using antibacterial soap and water. Use hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water is not available.
- DON’T TOUCH your face or directly touch public surfaces such as handrails, elevator buttons, restroom faucets, gasoline pumps, etc.
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle (i.e. eat properly, hydrate and get plenty of rest).
- If you are sick, stay home. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, dry cough, difficulty breathing and/or severe illness), call the Florida Department of Health at 954-412-7300 BEFORE visiting your health care provider, and follow their instructions.
- Be cognizant of the fact that COVID-19 is highly transmissible and seniors are among the most vulnerable. Take steps to help protect the elderly from the spread.
Broward County remains under a local State of Emergency and the Broward EOC is at a Level 2 activation.

Subject: Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Per our last communication, we are continuing to closely monitor developments with Coronavirus (COVID-19). As you are aware, there are now identified cases of COVID-19 in Florida and we are continuing to stay in real-time communication with the CDC, Florida Department of Health and applicable county agencies on any further advice or specific building-wide steps to take.
At this time, the advice remains to use common approaches to avoid the spread of the virus including routinely disinfecting common areas. We have released information on specific steps for residents and building staff members to take. AKAM is also taking the following on-going and proactive steps:
- We will continue to monitor new developments as related to specific property-wide operational instructions issued by City, County, State and Federal agencies
- Utilizing our experience with prior events that caused or had the potential to cause interruptions of property operations, we are developing a specific preparedness guide for residents and staff members for distribution, if necessary
- Contingency staffing plans are being prepared for both AKAM staff and building service workers
Under any circumstances, AKAM’s primary objective will be to keep the ongoing operations of your property in as close to normal day-to-day operations as possible. We will utilize all available resources to ensure that the property remains secure, essential systems continue operating properly, and that there is on-going communication with your Board, on-site staff and residents.
